BRYAN, Texas (AP) — An 11-year-old Central Texas boy has been accused of swiping an SUV, wiping out a mailbox, driving over a yard and hitting a couple of trees before the joyride ended.
Bryan police say the youth was not hurt during Monday night’s incident in a vehicle owned by his grandparents. Officials aren’t sure what prompted the unauthorized drive that landed the boy in juvenile custody.
A neighbor called police after hearing a loud bang and other crashing sounds as the SUV struck various objects. The vehicle stopped in a final encounter with a tree.
Sgt. Jason James says the child faces a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. James says the incident could lead to the boy being denied his driver’s license when he’s eligible for the permit.
