HOUSTON (CBS Houston) After police found and revealed that three men were being held hostage inside a northeast Houston home, authorities confirmed Tuesday evening that one of the men died.

Seventy-nine-year-old William Greenawalt had died, according to police. The other two former captives, 59-year-old Dean Cottingham and 64-year-old John Padget, were recently released from the hospital into the care of adult services.

The trio was found earlier this month malnourished and confined to what police called a “dungeon room.”

Police also stated that Walter Jones was keeping them to collect their government assistance checks. Jones faced injury to the elderly charges at the time of this report. Police continue their investigation.
