Houston (CBS Houston) – Darryl Sharpton has dealt with his fair share of injuries during his three-year NFL career. That’s why coaches were excited the inside linebacker was coming into camp fully healthy, or at least so they thought.
“Sharp’s a little bit of a surprise to us. (He) came back with a sore groin, so we didn’t really know where we were because obviously we haven’t seen him in a little while.” said Gary Kubiak
Not only was Sharpton’s injury a surprise but, according to the Texans, it didn’t happen anywhere near the football field. Sharpton is on the non-football injury list, not the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. This means, by definition, his injury isn’t football related. With that said Gary Kubiak didn’t seem to think it was a long-term issue.
“(He) probably had as good of an offseason as anyone on our team, so it was a surprise and we’ll watch him here for a couple days and see where he’s at.” said Kubiak.
With Brian Cushing coming off a major injury and Sharpton banged up, the Texans are thin at inside linebacker. Brooks Reed spent time inside during OTA’s and Tim Dobbins is available but behind them there’s only second year player Cameron Collins.
