Houston (CBS Houston) – Editor’s Note: Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.
The Texans opened training camp at 8:00am on Friday morning. Here’s what you need to know about today’s practices:
>>> J.J. Watt got the team’s morning session started with a pep talk. Watt is the unquestionable leader of the team even though he’s heading into only his third NFL season.
>>> Brian Cushing returned to practice for the first time since his knee injury. He showed no ill effects and was moving just fine. The Texans did limit him as a precaution.
>>> Daryl Sharpton is dealing with a sore groin, which is why he was placed on the PUP. Tim Dobbins did the majority of fill in work.Cameron Collins was in his place as well.
>>> Tight End Garrett Graham is ill and was hospitalized yesterday. Kubiak said it was some sort of virus. He is out of the hospital today but is not back with the team yet.
>>>Sam Montgomery returned to the field after being placed on the non-football injury list.
“It was a big wake up call. I conditioned but I didn’t condition well enough.” said Montgomery.
He also said that staying away from Taco Bell and Whataburger is the hardest part. Montgomery tweaked his right ankle during practice but returned later in the day.
>>>Ed Reed worked out on the side and was moving well. Andre Johnson said yesterday that he will be ready for week one.
>>>Arian Foster continues to rehab from his strained calf.
>>>Third round pick Brennan Williams practiced for the first time since rookie minicamp. The missed time has clearly affected him. He’s a step behind the other rookies.
>>> While not a major note, undrafted RB Dennis Johnson out of Arkansas has impressed early on and could compete for the third running back spot.
>>>The Texans installed a new practice surface inside the bubble. It’s know as ‘UBU’ and it’s the same surface used at Met Life Stadium.
Roster Notes: The Texans signed NT Daniel Muir and CB Elbert Mack
