HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Basketball sensation and Houston native Brittney Griner taking her professional career to new heights, literally.

The former player for Baylor has been recently drafted by the iconic Harlem Globetrotters.

In fact, Grier who was drafted by the WBNA after her stellar college career, was one of five athletes selected in the seventh annual player draft of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters on Tuesday.

Joining Grier will be “Slam Dunk Champ” Doug Anderson from the University of Detroit Mercy, NAIA All-American Tyrone Davis of Northwood University in Florida, Corey Law from High Point University in North Carolina and baseball great Mariano Rivera.

“Brittney Griner is a great ambassador for the game of basketball and a terrific player. We fully support her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury,” said Harlem Globetrotters CEO Kurt Schneider in a statement to media outlets. “Our North American tour runs from the end of December to the end of April, which would not conflict with the WNBA season. The Globetrotters already have two outstanding female stars in TNT Maddox and T-Time Brawner, so the transition to our roster would be seamless,” Schneider added.

Grier who stands a reported 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall, was the first NCAA basketball player ever to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots.

In 2012, the three-time All-American was named the AP Player of the Year as well as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Griner attended Houston’s Nimitz High School.
