‘Hero’ Who Stopped Robber Faces Additional Charges
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A man and former car salesman who made headlines last year after catching a robbery suspect in his Bellaire neighborhood now faces additional charges.
Rick Melartin was arrested Friday at his home in Kemah by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and was led to the Harris County Jail. Although the details of is current charges were not made available at the time of this report, Melartin is currently charged with sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child.
In that case, the 16-year-old victim claims he touched her inappropriately, sexually assaulted her and then paid her $5,000. Back in January, a judge ordered him to wear a GPS monitor and surrender his passport as well as any weapons that may have been in his possession.
Melartin, 51, earned the nickname “The Finnisher” after he pulled a gun on an armed driveway robber who had held up his neighbor in Bellaire. Later, he turned that act into a platform and ad campaign for his car dealership.
