HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A SWAT standoff ended Thursday in The Woodlands with one woman dead and a man in custody. Reports indicate that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a residence on Dellforest Drive for a disturbance.
Right around the same time officials were deployed to the home, deputies received another call from a nearby business that a woman had walked in saying she had been assaulted and that she had witnessed her boyfriend kill his mother.
Upon arrival at the home, officials found a woman dead, believed to be in her 50s, in a downstairs room. It appeared that the woman died from a gunshot wound.
SWAT officers were called to the scene believing that the suspect was armed somewhere inside the house. In an effort to secure the safety of other individuals in the residential area, they cordoned off a large area around the neighborhood.
SWAT officers and other law enforcement officials negotiated with the man during a two-hour standoff with the suspect eventually surrendering around 6 p.m.
The 37-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with the murder of the woman found dead in the home. The assault victim was taken to a hospital.
