HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Five CenterPoint Energy workers were critically injured Thursday.

The employees were reportedly shocked while working within an underground electrical vault at a building in downtown Houston.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene which was the Southwestern Bell building in the 1100 block of Capitol around 10 a.m.

According to HFD officials, the workers were hit with 480 volts of electricity and were quickly transported to area hospitals with various levels of electrical burn injuries.

San Jacinto, Capitol and Texas streets were shut down Thursday as they worked to clear the area.

No other information was released at the time of this report.
