Changes Made To Tax-Free Weekend In Texas

CICELY MITCHELL, CBS Houston

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) It may be too early to plan for your back-to-school shopping but that annual pilgrimage to the aisles of pencils, crayons and book bags will indeed be part of the fabric of the end-of-summer rituals for many soon.

In the state of Texas, the Tax-Free Weekend will still take place but this year the weekend that will feature many items on sale without sales tax, has been changed.

According to reports, the tax-free weekend has been changed to August 9 through August 11; the beloved weekend moved up one week before it was originally scheduled. Eligible goods include: school supplies, most clothing, footwear, and backpacks. Many stores include electronics and specialty items as merchandise that is free of sales tax during the Tax-Free Weekend.

In order for consumers to take full advantage of the tax free weekend, items must be individually priced at $100 dollars or less.

Many consumers look forward to Tax-Free weekend and call it one in which they are able to save tremendous amounts of money on necessities that ensure their professional, academic and personal success throughout the year.
