BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama teenager was charged Wednesday with abducting a 10-month-old boy who was found safe in Texas almost two days after being taken from a home in Birmingham, police said.

Breanna Nicole Walker, 19, of Birmingham was in federal custody with bond set at $100,000.

Walker was arrested in Dallas, where De’Anthony Dejuan Kelly was found safe at a hotel late Tuesday.

State authorities canceled an alert that had been issued for the boy after he was reported missing.

“I did know through it all that God would bring our baby home safe and healthy,” the boy’s grandmother, Bernadine Kelley, told AL.com. “God does not fail.”

Sgt. Johnny Williams, a Birmingham police spokesman, said no charges were filed immediately against the 14-year-old girl accused of taking the child from the home. Walker was believed to have been in a car that left Alabama with the child and the 14-year-old, he said.

Police are still investigating a man who was driving the car, Williams said.

Authorities said the little boy’s godmother was taking care of him for his mother when he disappeared early Monday.

Investigators initially believed the child was being taken to Mississippi but later received a tip that resulted in the child and the others being found at a hotel in Dallas.

Williams said police were still investigating a motive and could not discuss the relationship between Walker and the 14-year-old girl, described as the daughter of the woman who was watching the child.

“I think that young girl was misled by the older girl. I think the older girl wanted a baby and I think she wanted our baby,” Kelley said.

The baby and the 14-year-old both were in custody of Child Protective Custody in Dallas, police said. Authorities said they would return the two to Alabama through child welfare agencies.

Prosecutors will work through courts to have Walker returned to Alabama to face charges, police said.
