HOUSTON (CBS Houston) According to data released this week, the state of Texas leads the country in the number of lost and/or stolen firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives issued a report this week revealing numbers that showed that in the state of Texas, there were 18,874 firearms lost or stolen in 2012.

The state that followed Texas in its number of lost and/or stolen firearms was Georgia with 12,906. Florida, California and North Carolina were states that topped the list as well.

The state with the fewest firearms that were lost or stolen was Rhode Island.

The bureau which publishes the report annually, reveals data about firearms that are lost and/or stolen to the Obama administration as the administration makes strides to eradicate and reduce gun violence.
