Fate Of Astrodome To Be Discussed In Meeting

CICELY MITCHELL, CBS Houston

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The future of the historic Astrodome is once again the subject of debate and the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation has scheduled meeting  on Wednesday in Houston, to formally consider 19 plans that have been submitted for ideas on reusing the old and deteriorating stadium.

The sports corporation’s five-member board could choose an idea out of those submitted and present that idea to the Harris County Commissioners Court at its capital improvement programs meeting on June 25.

The sports corporation which will also be presenting its own plan for the Astrodome, recommended that plans to renovate the Astrodome move forward previously; the stadium has been vacant since 2009.

Once called the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, The Astrodome hosted WWE then (WWF) Wrestlemania XVII which set an all-time record attendance for Reliant Astrodome of 67,925.
