HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A teenager continues to recover from shark bites on his hand and leg. The teen was bitten by a shark this week as he stood in waist-deep water at a Southeast Texas beach Monday afternoon.

The 15-year-old male was with a group of kids at Surfside Beach around 2:45 p.m. Monday when a shark bit him on the left leg. According to authorities with Surfside Beach, the teenager hit the shark with his left hand to ward him off, but the shark bit him there as well.

Additional reports indicated the the teen who was not identified at the time of this report, sustained cuts to his leg and hand. He was then rushed to a Houston-area hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

It is not clear what kind of shark bit the teenager. Surfside Beach is located about 60 miles south of Houston.
