HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Chad Johnson, former Miami Dolphins player is a free man after spending seven days in jail for butt slapping his attorney.

Johnson, formerly known as “Ochocinco” was jailed for hitting his attorney across the rear end last week. After seven days in jail and one visit from NFL colleague  Terrell Owens, Johnson is scheduled to be released from jail Monday.

Upon his release, Johnson took time to apologize to Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh for his behavior in her courtroom last week:

“I just wanted to apologize for disrespecting the court last time,” said Johnson, wearing a tan jail jumpsuit with his hands shackled at the waist, the AP reported. “I apologize. I did have time to reflect on the mistakes I made in this courtroom,” Johnson stated Monday. Judge McHugh accepted the apology.

During a hearing for a probation violation, Johnson slapped his attorney on the butt. After the butt-slap heard around the world, several individuals in the courtroom laughed and snickered;Judge McHugh was, however, not among the laughing.

Instead, she imposed upon Johnson a 30-day sentence. That sentence was reduced Monday.

According to Johnson’s attorney Adam Swickle, Johnson’s rear-end slap was just the former football player’s way of saying “thank you”.

There’s been no word yet on alternative ways Johnson is searching for to say “thank you” to his legal counsel.
