SWAT Standoff Ensues After Shots Fired

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A SWAT standoff was in progress in the early morning hours of Friday at a house located  in southeast Houston .

The standoff ensued after officials tried to take a felony suspect into custody.

Reports stated that U.S. Marshals arrived on the scene around 5 a.m. as well as a host of other law enforcement sectors near West Airport and Cullen; as a result of the standoff, West Airport was closed to traffic in both directions.

Additional reports stated that the suspect evaded authorities and someone fired shots. The suspect then barricaded himself in a house.

Just before 6 a.m., a SWAT team was setting up outside the home and making attempts to communicate with the suspect.

At last check, officials detained at least one person on the ground outside the home, with many other suspects believed to be inside the home. Residents that lived in surrounding homes were asked to stay inside.

There was no other information released at the time of this report.
