Thrid Suspect Arrested, Charged In Man’s Death
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The Houston Police Department has filed charges against a third suspect in connection with the assault and burning of a male. The crime happened on Witte Road at about 4 a.m. on April 21.
“The [third] suspect, Marcus Washington is charged with murder,” stated officials with HPD. “A second suspect, Esterrell Simpson is also charged with murder. The other suspect, Maurice Eugene Hollis is [also] charged with murder.”
Authorities with HPD further stated that the 32-year-old male victim “…suffered extensive burns and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.”
He was pronounced dead on April 23 with his identity pending notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to family members in El Salvador.
HPD Homicide Division officials added additional information in regards to the crime: “Three males were seen beating the victim at the exit gate of the apartment complex at the above address. They then set him on fire before fleeing the scene.”
Upon a preliminary investigation, officials determined that three suspects were seen walking in the area of Witte Road and Long Point Drive. “One of the suspects was seen on surveillance video carrying a red gallon-sized gas can,” added HPD.
“Further investigation identified Simpson, Hollis and Washington as the suspects in this case. Simpson was arrested on May 1 in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Hollis was arrested on May 29 by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. On Thursday (June 6), members of the same task force took Washington into custody without incident.”
