HISD Continues Academic Excellence With New Magnet Schools
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) In their continuous efforts to provide students with educational tools and principles ensuring their success as productive global citizens, the Houston Independent School District has announced two new magnet schools.
The Energy Institute High School and the Baylor College of Medicine Academy will be HISD’s two newest learning institutions, offering students state of the art technology and tools for their education and chosen fields of study.
The one-of-a-kind magnet schools are geared toward students who wish to enter into fields such as science, energy, medicine and mathematics.
The schools will also offer students a balanced education, coupled with late, cutting-edge technology, preparing them for higher learning in their post-graduate studies.
“The Energy Institute High School will capitalize on Houston’s world-leading energy industry, representing the fields of geoscience, alternative energy, and offshore technology,” stated officials with HISD. “HISD is expanding its existing partnership with the Independent Petroleum Association of America to enhance the school’s curriculum and instruction. The Energy Institute High School will begin with ninth-grade students and add a grade level each year to eventually serve students in grades 9-12.”
Principal Lori Lambropoulos of the Energy Institute looks forward to offering a world-class education to ambitious and ingenious students of the Houston Independent School District: “As principal of the first high school devoted to preparing students for careers in the energy field, my goal is to deliver extraordinary firsts in learning,” Lambropoulos said in a statement. “I am thrilled to be the leader of a school that is participating in a thematic approach to the school experience – mingling the exploration of energy careers with cutting edge education. What a rich learning experience it will be to connect students’
passion to their educational know-how!
“The Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan will be aligned with HISD’s prestigious DeBakey High School for Health Professions in the Texas Medical Center,” added HISD authorities. “Expanding this partnership with Baylor College of Medicine will provide more students with access to the faculty of one of America’s leading medical schools. The Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan will open with a sixth-grade class and eventually serve students in grades 6-8. The new school will be located at the historic Ryan Middle School site, 2610 Elgin.”
