JOSHUA, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a North Texas girl has died on her 13th birthday after being accidentally shot by her 19-year-old brother as he cleaned a gun.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened Tuesday night at a home near Joshua. The girl was transported to a Fort Worth hospital where she died.

The Tarrant County medical examiner on Wednesday identified the victim as Emilee Bates.

No charges were immediately filed. The sheriff’s office didn’t immediately provide additional details Wednesday.

Joshua is 15 miles south of Fort Worth.
