HOUSTON (CBS Houston) This week the city of Houston will have the opportunity to say goodbye to four firefighters killed in the line of duty last week. A public memorial has been planned for Wednesday at the Reliant Stadium for four firefighters many are now calling “angels” and “heroes”.
Captain EMT Matthew Renaud, Engineer Operator EMT Robert Bebee, Firefighter EMT Robert Garner and Probationary Firefighter Anne Sullivan will be memorialized in a public service that is expected to draw over 40,000 people. The public memorial will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.
As investigators look for more clues as to what went wrong, plans and details continue to be implemented for the public memorial. The memorial will be like none before, as residents in Houston and surrounding areas will honor the four who died last Friday attempting to extinguish a fire at the Southwest Inn on Friday.
CBS Radio Houston spent time at a public memorial at Station 51 taking note of the balloons, cards, flowers and figures that paid homage to what many are calling four brave, courageous and skilled HFD fire personnel. Click here to view pictures of the Station 51 memorial.
