HFD On Southwest Houston Fire: ‘Scene Is Secured And Under Investigation’

CICELY MITCHELL, CBS Houston

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) As the Houston Fire Department and the city of Houston continue to mourn the loss of our four firefighters from the five-alarm fire in Southwest Houston Friday, officials with HFD provided updates about the investigative process and the scene of the blaze:

• “There have now been a total of 14 firefighters transported to the hospital, stated officials from HFD. One firefighter remains in critical condition and another is undergoing surgery today. The other members are all stable and several have already been released from the hospital.”

• “The Houston Fire Department has members assigned to help and support each family of the four members who lost their lives.”

• “The scene is currently secured and under investigation. The Houston Fire Department Arson Division is the lead investing agency on this incident with assistance from the State Fire Marshal Office, ATF and Houston Police Department.”

• “At this time, we can confirm that a collapse occurred and resulted in the line of duty deaths.”

Additional information about the fallen firefighters as well as the investigation into the blaze will be provided as it becomes available from authorities.
