HOUSTON (CBS Houston) According to one study, living in the Bayou City is indeed prosperous for its residents. Houston is world-renowned for its food, nightlife, diversity and now can be a city that is known for being healthy.

The study  from the American College of Sports Medicine ranked several cities across the nation and ranked 50 cities as healthy cities. Researchers’ finds were based on a number of behaviors that included but were not limited to exercise, obesity rates, tobacco usage, chronic health problems and access to professional health care.

The study also took into account environment and availability to parks and outdoor venues and markets.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine‘s website: “Established six years ago with support from the WellPoint Foundation, the AFI data report evaluates the infrastructure, community assets and policies that encourage healthy and fit lifestyles in the 50 most populous metro areas in the United States.”

With Houston being on the list and taking the #43 spot, other Texas cities were cited for their health practices. They included San Antonino at #48, Austin at #11 and Dallas rounding out the Lone Star state with the #44 spot.
