HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The National Rifle Association has given an eight-year-old boy a free lifetime membership, after he ate a Pop-Tart and shaped it into a gun at an elementary school in Baltimore.

Reports indicate that Joshua Welch’s free membership into the NRA is valued $550. He received the membership Wednesday night at a fundraiser for the Anne Arundel County Republicans. After receiving his membership, he resumed the games he was playing on his cell phone.

On March 1st, he was suspended from Park Elementary School after crafting his snack into a gun.

Additional reports indicate that he initially denied making the Pop-Tart into a gun and then later admitted to doing so.

School officials at Park Elementary told parents they would give counseling to any children who needed it after Joshua’s Pop-Tart incident.

The NRA held its annual conference in Houston this past year and it was met with both protest and angst as well as support and triumph from the public.
