Former Cougar D.J. Hayden Hospitalized, Out For OTAs
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – Former University of Houston star D.J. Hayden has been hospitalized, according to Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen. Hayden was suffering from symptoms of abdominal pain last week. He was admitted to a Bay area hospital and had surgery late last week to remove scar tissue. Hayden is still hospitalized and there is no word when he might be released. He is not expected to return for the Raiders’ OTAs but Allen is hopeful that the corner will be back in time for training camp in July.
Hayden was the miracle story in the 2013 NFL Draft, being selected in the first round as the 12th overall pick after a near death experience last November. The cornerback collided with a teammate and suffered a tear of the inferior vena cava. Hayden was rushed to surgery for the injury which is fatal in 95% of cases. He made a full recovery and was cleared by doctors to return to football. It is unknown whether Hayden’s latest hospitalization is related to this previous injury.
