Astros Contribute To Oklahoma Tornado Relief Efforts
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) - The Houston Astros will be raising money this week at Minute Maid Park for ongoing Oklahoma tornado relief efforts. The Astros organization wants to do its part to help out Moore, Oklahoma,where a 24 where killed and hundreds injured in last week’s devastating tornado.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to those affected by the tornado,” said Astros President of Business Operations Reid Ryan in a team statement. “We have close ties to that community and many friends there. Those are the folks that support us in Oklahoma City, so we’re eager to do our part to help them out in a time of need.”
The Astros Foundation will hold their silent auction “Jerseys Off Their Backs” at the Astros Community Clubhouse in the main concourse. This week fans can make cash donations or bid on player-worn jerseys. Auction winners will be announced Tuesday, May 28.
The Astros players’ wives will also be selling Mystery Grab Bags containing autographed balls. The Astros Foundation will donate 100% of proceeds to the American Red Cross relief efforts for the Oklahoma tornado victims.
