HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are reminding those that choose to engage in water sports and activities in pools, lakes and other public bodies of water over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, to practice safety, vigilance and common sense.
They are also expressing a “zero tolerance” or drinking and driving or driving while under the influence of substances or chemicals. Those who are found in violation of such laws will be arrested expediently.
“In the wake of the death of HCSO Sgt. Dwayne Polk in a crash caused by a drunken driver this past weekend, Sheriff Garcia will be joined by HCSO deputies, troopers of the Texas Highway Patrol and other area law enforcement agencies, to remind the public that irresponsibility will not be tolerated,” stated officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. “Drunken drivers and boaters, as well as those who commit other traffic violations, will be arrested.”
Officials with the HCSO believe that with safe practices implemented, residents of Harris County can enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend without being arrested or having emergency workers come to assist.
They encourage fun but also encourage vigilance and common sense coupled with that fun.
