HOUSTON (CBS Houston) According to investigators, a three-year-old boy drowned in an apartment complex’s pool after he climbed a fence Sunday afternoon at Westheimer Terrace Apartments. The toddler was later found at the bottom of the pool.
Despite their efforts to help, residents performed CPR on the toddler until EMS showed up. Their efforts proved to be fruitless.
Sunday’s drowning marks the third drowning to happen in the Houston area this week. Last Sunday night, a 5-year-old boy slipped and fell into the pool at an apartment complex located off of Fondren.
A Fort Bend County child was in the shallow end of a pool, but was later found in the deep end.
Authorities say that with the warm weather a factor, it is paramount that parents and guardians keep a close eye on children near bodies of water.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that every day,”… about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.”
