HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – When J.J. Watt heard about the boy with a robot named after him, he decided he had to meet him. On Thursday Watt made a trip to Splendora, Texas to visit the boy who named his robot “Watt” after his NFL hero. Christian Beasley, 12, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and uses the robot to attend school while he undergoes chemotherapy.
The “telepresence robot,” marketed by VGo Communications, is operated remotely via computer and webcam. Christian drives the robot and uses the video screen on it to communicate with his teachers and take part in class. Robot Watt is the 34th of its kind to help children who have compromised immune systems that do not allow them to attend school.
J.J. met with Christian and even made a virtual appearance in his class via his namesake robot.
