CICELY MITCHELL, CBS Houston

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A Texas woman is facing misdemeanor charges after allegedly putting an ad on Craigslist to adopt out her three-year-old child.

Reports indicate that 29-year-old Stephanie Redus is charged with advertising for placement of a child. Redus told authorities that during her pregnancy, she placed the ad on or around May 1 because she was depressed and suffers from an anxiety disorder.

Redus who is from Huffman, crafted an ad that stated: “Hi, I’m trying to adopt out my three year old son. I’m not in a good place in my life and don’t feel like I can care for him properly, but I don’t know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him please let me know. I’m a single mom and can’t do this. Thanks, Desperate.”

After authorities used a database to uncover Redus’ email, address and phone number,a subpoena was submitted to Craiglist by a peace officer with the Houston Police Department.

Redus told Houston police that she did make the post but never intended to give her child up for adoption. She also told police that she was not thinking rationally when she posted the ad and she had not taken her medication to treat her mental ailments.
