HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A man lost his life over the weekend after his efforts to pull him from a house fire were unsuccessful.

The fire happened in north Houston on Sunday. Neighbors rushed to rescue the victim, who was trapped as a fire ripped through his home. Fire crews were called to the home that was located in the 800 block of North Loop near North Main around 12:20pm.

Upon arrival, they found flames that had engulfed the building. They were also alerted to someone that was trapped inside.

Neighbors attempted to retrieve the man before fire crews arrived but their efforts proved unsuccessful and the man perished as a result of the blaze.

According to officials with the Houston Fire Department, the home had no utilities and sustained heavy damage.

Authorities including arson investigators continue to seek a cause for the fire.
