HOUSTON (CBS Houston) On Saturday, Baytown police investigated a shooting at a convenience store.
The incident happened at the Alexander Food Store on North Alexander.
According to police, a confrontation between the gunman and a store clerk ensued around 11 a.m. and ended with the alleged gunman in the hospital. The store had been robbed before and as a result of previous robberies, the store clerk was prepared was armed with a gun.
The suspect was a man, believed to be in his 40s who reportedly ran into the food mart, wearing a mask, brandishing a gun and demanding money.
The clerk told him to put the gun down, but when he refused, the clerk pulled his own gun and shot the suspect in the stomach, police said.
The suspect then ran out of the store and collapsed in front of the building, while his getaway car, a silver Dodge, was still running.
The wounded robbery suspect was flown to Memorial Hermann Trauma Institute and was last listed in critical condition.
There were no other injuries reported. Police continue their investigation of the incident.
