First Responder Charged With Having Explosive Device
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A first responder with the West Fire Department was arrested early Friday morning facing a charge of possession of an explosive device.
Reports indicate that Bryce Ashley Reed was apprehended after federal officials received a call from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office. Reed allegedly asked an acquaintance to store a box for him; the request was made after the explosion at the West Fertilizer Company.
After that person looked into the compartment Reed gave for storage the individual found an explosive device. He then concluded that Reed had in his possession and wanted stored, what appeared to be a pipe bomb.
That person then called the sheriff’s Office; officials at the sheriff’s office then called federal investigators.
As authorities investigate the incident, they did not find any connection between the alleged request to store the pipe bomb to the explosion that took place at a fertilizer plant out in West, Texas last month.
Additional reports state that Reed is due to be arraigned Friday morning on federal charges.
A criminal investigation was launched on Friday into last month’s deadly fertilizer plant explosion.
