HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A man wielding knives was taken into custody after officials and a SWAT team used bean bag rounds to subdue the suspect in the early morning hours of Thursday.
The incident happened after the 21-year-old man got into a fight with his mom, police said.
The standoff, which was reported around 2 a.m. at a residence located on on Synott near Westpark, was a threatening one as the suspect was reportedly arguing with his mom and using knives as as weapon. The mom managed to lock the apartment door with her son stuck outside, standing on the balcony.
Police attempted to get the man to exit the balcony but he refused.
Soon, a negotiator talked with the man for about two hours before police moved in with force. The man was then shocked with a stun gun and then bean bag rounds were deployed. The suspect finally dropped the knives.
HPD took the man into custody on outstanding warrants out of Harris County. No other injuries were reported.
