HOUSTON (CBS Houston) - Daryl Morey, general manager of the Houston Rockets, finished third in the NBA Executive of the Year voting.  Denver GM Masai Ujiri was the winner with eight first-place votes while Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Gary Sacks came in second.

Morey was responsible for making the James Harden trade and signing free agents Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin, helping the Rockets clinch their first playoff berth since 2009.  Morey, who joined the Rockets front office in 2006 and became GM in 2007, received four first-place votes.  Morey, a graduate of MIT’s business school, is known for applying his advanced statistics and analytics analysis to basketball.  In March the Rockets signed Morey to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-2018 season.
