HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Howling winds and cold temperatures could be heard and felt in the early morning hours of Friday as Houston area meteorologists helped to brace residents for a cold start to the weekend.

Sweaters, coats and layered clothing once again made an appearance as temperatures plummeted into the upper 40s Friday morning. Forecasters also stated that a record low may be on tap as well.

While Friday is expected to remain a chilly day, sunny skies were expected for Friday afternoon and a below average high of near 60 would hover.

Despite the chills and winds, meteorologists called for a weekend filled with sunshine.
