Manuel Richard Pena, 65, was arrested in 2011 by HCSO Cold Case investigators and charged with the murder of Sherri Strong.

On June 16, 1982, 19-year-old Strong was found strangled to death and nude on the floor of the garage at 10731 Hazy Valley Lane in north Harris County.

“The victim’s boyfriend at the time,  Pena, told investigators that Strong committed suicide by hanging herself. After the initial investigation the case went unsolved,” added officials of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

“Investigators with the HCSO’s Cold Case Unit reopened the case in 2011 and Pena was charged and arrested as the suspect in Ms. Strong’s death”, added officials.

On April 24, 2013, a jury found Manuel Pena guilty of murder; consequently, he was sentenced to life in prison on April 25, 2013.
