HOUSTON (CBS Houston) According to officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, HCSO Detention Officer J.C. Godby died of injuries sustained during a traffic accident in northwest Harris County on  Saturday.

Officials stated that at approximately 12:30 p.m., Detention Officer J.C. Godby, was traveling westbound at the 5900 block of F.M. 2920 while operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle in the inside lane of the road.

“A Chevrolet Tahoe was attempting to turn east on to F.M. 2920 from the private drive of a Kroger store”, added officials.

“The Tahoe turned wide into the westbound lane of D.O. Godby. The motorcycle struck the back left panel of the Tahoe, and then struck a 2005 Ford F150 truck that was in the center turn lane. Detention Officer Godby was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann medical center. He later died of his injuries.”

Authorities also stated that Officer Godby joined the HCSO in August of 2012 and was assigned to the 701 N. San Jacinto Detention Facilities.
