HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Police found a man burned lying in the middle of the street. The discovery was made in a neighborhood located in west Houston early Sunday morning.

Authorities found the burned man in a street, next to an apartment complex located on Witte near Long Point just after 4:00 a.m. According to witness accounts, loud and chilling screams could be heard. As several individuals ran outside to see what commotion was behind the screams, they saw several people fighting and arguing.

Those witnesses then ran back inside their apartments to call police and by the time they came back out, they say a man was on fire.

Investigators from both homicide and arson departments examined the evidence and as they did so, they discovered a gas can that was found on the scene as well as several water bottles, thus indicating that not only was the man burned, but individuals attempted to help the man by extinguishing the fire.

Further reports indicate that the individual was rushed to an area hospital and listed in critical condition. As officials piece details of the incident, they are asking anyone who may have information that could be helpful in their investigation to contact them or anonymously place a call to the Crime Stoppers line at (713)222-TIPS.
