HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The Coast Guard rescued one boater in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, then turned search efforts to four others.
The boaters were on a fishing boat early Friday morning. That boat sank and a distress call came in at approximately 3:30 a.m. about the craft and those on board.
Reports indicate that the boat went down approximately 115 miles southeast of Galveston.
Rescue crews boarded an aircraft and flew that rescue helicopter from Corpus Christi where they were able to spot one man in an orange life raft.
A Dolphin rescue helicopter launched from Houston, hoisted the man to a safe location. He was evaluated at an oil rig. After learning that the man was accompanied by four other individuals, rescue crews turned their efforts to finding them.
At the time of this report, the search for the four remaining boaters was underway.
