Local Student ‘Rocks For Ta-Tas’
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Michael Brown is an extraordinary college student with an extraordinary vision. Brown was inspired on March 7th, 2013, after seeing a video of a chapter of his fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi to implement a philanthropy project called “Rockin’ For Ta-Tas”.
“Essentially, brothers of their chapter sit in a rocking chair for approximately 65 hours straight and ask for donations for their philanthropy, ” Brown stated. ” My life has been deeply affected by our philanthropy cause, breast cancer. I lost a dear friend to breast cancer when I was 11 years old. I see people, men and women suffer from this deadly disease every day and we need to find a cure.”
So Brown, along with his fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi, is bringing “Rockin’ For Ta-Tas” to the University of Houston. Brown will essentially sit in a rocking chair, from Tuesday April 30 – Friday May 3rd. “Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be sitting in front of the library from 6 a.m.- 10 p.m. On Friday, we will be set up in front of Cougar Village,” Brown added.
“Very simply: My goal is to raise $5,000 in donations for breast cancer. Also, we will be doing various things to help raise money during the hours of the event such as; take a picture with the rocker for a dollar, arm wrestling for a dollar, etc.”
Brown also stated that those who donate cash to Brown’s cause will be allowed to sign the actual rocking chair that he will be sitting in. “We will then, at the end of the week, present the chair and a check to a representative from our breast cancer philanthropy, Sharsheret. Sharsheret is the Jewish equivalent of the Susan G. Komen foundation and is doing amazing things in the state of Israel for people forced to deal with breast cancer,” stated Brown.
