Houston (CBS Houston) – On Wednesday House lawmakers passed a ceremonial resolution formally naming the pecan pie as Texas’ official state.  First-year Representative Marsha Farney, a Republican from Georgetown, decided her first bill would be the nuttiest one in recent history.  After all, the pecan is Texas’ state nut and the official state tree is the pecan tree.  To celebrate the new bill, the state Capitol cafeteria served pecan pie.

Pecan growers across Texas went nuts over this sweet victory.
