OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Police in Oklahoma City say a dog found a dead baby and brought the corpse home.
The mixed-breed dog named Luke made the discovery last Saturday morning and police are investigating the death as a possible homicide.
Oklahoma City television station KOCO reports a person was house sitting for the homeowner when the dog brought home the dead newborn boy.
“He was carrying it just like a mama pup and laid it at my feet,” the house-sitter, who did not want to give her name, told KFOR-TV.
The woman believes Luke was just trying to help the dead baby, which weighed up to five pounds.
“I believe he found it, picked it up and brought it,” she told KFOR. “There was no trauma you could tell he inflicted.”
Authorities say the dog roams a large area and police were canvassing the neighborhood to try to find clues.
“We don’t know if the baby was stillborn or what the cause of death was in this particular case, but that’s why homicide is investigating,” Oklahoma City Police Capt. Dexter Nelson told The Oklahoman.
Nelson also said that the woman who gave birth to the baby girl could be facing health issues.
The home is in the 15000 block of South Air Depot.
