HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Another Carnival cruise ship is reporting trouble on the high seas, bringing the grand total to four ships that have experienced trial and tribulation in recent months.
Despite the ships being named “Triumph, “Elation” and “Dream”, many may perhaps not be finding anything triumphant about the Carnival cruise line as reports of trouble continue to plague the legendary cruise company.
The latest Carnival cruise ship to experience trouble is the Carnival Cruise ship Legend. According to reports, the ship is experiencing technical difficulties that are affecting its sailing speed. The Legend was bringing to a close its seven-day Caribbean cruise that departed Tampa on Sunday.
Reports with problems on the Legend come upon the heels of three other Carnival Cruise ships having problems.
Carnival Elation was escorted by a tugboat due to a malfunction in its steering system recently.
The most publicized Carnival cruise ship with problems was reported last month when an engine room fire left the Carnival Triumph crippled in the Gulf of Mexico. More than 4,000 people were on board that ship.
The four-day cruise was extended into an eight-day nightmare for passengers after power was cut, septic systems were clogged and food was scarce. Additional reports indicate that several passengers from that cruise have filed lawsuits against the Carnival cruise line.
Due to the problems with the Legend, Carnival said it canceled a scheduled stop in Grand Cayman with the ship scheduled to make a trek back to its scheduled ending destination in Tampa, Florida. Carnival has promised to refund $100 to passengers and give them other refunds and discounts due to the hardship they have endured.
Carnival Cruise officials did not know the exact number of people on board the Legend but, according to its website, it can hold 2,124 passengers and 930 crew members.
First it was Carnival’s ship Triumph that had problems, then it was Carnival’s Elation. The third ship to experience issues was Carnival’s Dream and now Legend. Carnival is working to rectify problems with the ships and also announced that company officials will be conducting “a comprehensive review” of all of its 23 ships.
