HOUSTON (CBS Houston) In an age where many of us think of ways to save our environment, we can begin creating an Eco-friendly environment with houseplants. Check out some of the benefits of houseplants for you!

Easier Breathing When you breathe, your body inhales oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Their actions are the direct opposite of ours! Because of this, plants are truly wonderful when it comes to breathing and breathing wonderful air. Adding plants to interior spaces increases oxygen levels.

Creating Moisture Did you know that your plants can create a more hydrated environment for you? As part of the photosynthetic and respiratory processes, plants release moisture vapor. As a result, this increases humidity of the air around them. If plants release roughly 97 percent of the water they take in, then placing several plants in a room can increase the humidity of a room. So say goodbye to those dry coughs and that dry air!

Purified Air Houseplants can also help purify your air. For example, plants remove toxins from air. So having several of them in your home can really help you to breathe air that is pure and wonderful for your respiratory system.

So how many plants do you need? Well consider one perhaps in your living room that is large enough to be enjoyed by you and guests and perhaps place one or two in your bedroom. See how you feel and notice your environment around you for cleaner, greener and fresher surroundings!
