Crews Suspend Search Of Missing Kayaker

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and Cy- Fair Fire and Rescue suspended their search of a missing kayaker.

The kayaker who was last seen yesterday March 9, 2013, at a retention pond located at West Road and Copper Haven in the Copper Lakes Subdivision, was identified as 32-year-old Ryan Smith. According to officials, Smith is 5’11 with brown hair and blue eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing shorts and a white colored t-shirt. “He is known to kayak the retention pond and fishes the pond frequently,” stated officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

“Witnesses called the HCSO after finding the kayak next to the shore line. Deputies from the HCSO Marine unit along with Cy-Fair Fire and Rescue searched the outer area of the pond. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), helicopter conducted an aerial search of the pond,” added HCSO.

The Marine unit divers along with Cy Fair Fire and Rescue sonar boats conducted an exhaustive as well as extensive search of the area with no results.
