HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Harris County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a deputy involved shooting. The incident took place on Saturday after deputies responded to a robbery in progress at the Family Dollar store located at 13700 Kuykendahl Road.

“When deputies arrived they observed five armed suspects entering a late model white F350 Crew Cab truck and drive off at a high rate of speed and fleeing south on Kuykendahl”, added authorities with HCSO.

Deputies began pursuing the suspect vehicle and followed the suspect as the driver of the truck made several turns and then drove north on Kuykendahl before entering the Pecan Forest subdivision. Officials also added that the suspects fled on Bycreek Drive where they crashed through a barrier on Waycreek Drive and entered a gully of Cypress Creek. “The suspects then ran from the truck and fled in to the brush of the creek line,” stated authorities.

Deputies set up a perimeter and authorities also deployed several K9 units to help with the search efforts.

“While searching the creek bed, a K 9 handler along with a deputy providing cover for him located one suspect along a fence line of the creek,” stated HCSO.

The suspect was ordered to surrender but he began climbing the fence line disregarding the commands of the deputies. Upon being told to surrender again, the suspect then pulled out what officials believed to be a weapon and he then pointed it at the deputies.

The deputies in fear for their lives, discharged their duty weapons striking the suspect. He died at the scene. Three other suspects were captured with out incident. “One suspect escaped capture, but investigators are confident in locating his whereabouts,” added officials with HCSO.

It is standard protocol of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office to involve the Harris County Sheriff’s Homicide unit, Internal Affairs and the Office of Inspector General to investigate deputy involved shootings. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will conduct in investigation into the incident.
