HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Former Houston hand surgeon Michael Brown will serve time in jail, according to a Harris County judge. Brown was found guilty of contempt on six counts and was sentenced to serve 180 days in the Harris County Jail on each; the jail sentences will run concurrently.
Reports indicate that Brown was found guilty over several purchases while a March 2011 injunction with his wife allowed him to make “normal” personal and reasonable personal and business purchases. Brown who was cited for making outlandish purchases, reportedly bought two Miami Beach properties with one costing $6 million and the other $4.6 million. He secured loans for both. In addition to both properties, Brown also secured a lease for an apartment in Miami Beach with a $14,000 a month rental price.
He also spent $111,000 in jewelry from Cartier in NYC and $39,000 on Cartier jewelery in Houston back in 2011.
Brown who was taken into custody after the judgements were read, has 10 days to appeal his conviction. The former hand surgeon is accused of choking a flight attendant on an international flight and lost his license to practice medicine in 2006, due to testing positive for cocaine.
