HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A former dance teacher accused of having sex with a student appeared in court on Thursday.
Amanda Feenstra made her first court appearance, since her arrest inside a courtroom. Her lawyer did most of the talking as Feenstra did not appear to have much to say to reporters or the judge.
Thirty-one-year-old Feenstra is charged with having an improper relationship with a student which is a second-degree felony.
According to the charging document, a former Humble High School student told police she had a sexual relationship with Feenstra beginning when she was 17 years old and while Feenstra served as instructor of the high school dance team. The student then reportedly wanted to break off the relationship but Feenstra would call her frequently and show up at the teen’s job uninvited and unannounced.
During Thrusday’s court appearance, the judge modified the conditions of Feenstra’s bail, implementing some serious restrictions. Feenstra is not to have any contact with the young woman or any minor under the age of 17.
Feenstra is also not to possess any device, including computers or cell phones in which she can go on the Internet. She remains free on $30,000 bond with the case headed to the grand jury. Feenstra is due to make another court appearance on April 24.
