HOUSTON (CBS Houston) According to Houston Fire Department authorities, a young boy likely caused a fire that burned a baby’s room in northeast Houston.
Houston firefighters were called out to a townhome, located directly across the street from a fire station, on North Wayside Drive and Dockal Road around midnight Wednesday. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire shooting from a second-story room.
After a thorough investigation, officials revealed that a 7-year-old boy was playing with a lighter upstairs in the baby’s room and managed to set a baby’s crib on fire; the blaze quickly spread to the walls of the bedroom.
The 7-year-old was able to get out of the burning room without injury. The rest of the family was downstairs when the fire started and all managed to evacuate out of the room.
As the recent events serve as a reminder to many, HFD reminds parents that young children are curious beings. Authorities remind parents and guardians that children need to know the dangers of items that are potentially dangerous or hazardous.
