Sophie and Tandy, Mayor Parker’s BARC Pets of the Week, are just two of many BARC superstars that could make an appearance at BARC’s first mega pet adoption event of 2013 this weekend. BARC’s Adoption Stampede is scheduled for Saturday,March 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CITYCENTRE, located at 822 Town & Country Blvd., Houston 77024, directly under Studio Movie Grill.

“We are so excited to have the opportunity to take our animals out to Houston’s community with an adoption event of this caliber,” said Chris Newport, BARC spokesman. “We appreciate Mayor Parker standing so firmly behind our efforts. We are hoping this weekend’s event will be the most successful mega adoption event in BARC’s history.”

Tons of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens in all shapes and sizes will be available for adoption at the event. Visit www.HoustonBARC.com to get more information such as adoption requirements and adoption fees.

For those who are unable to make it to this Saturday’s event at CITYCENTRE, BARC encourages Houstonians to stop by BARC’s facility and meet the perfect match for their family. BARC is located at 3200 Carr Street, Houston 77026 and is open for adoptions every Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday-Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Name: Sophie
Animal ID: A1100261
Breed: Beagle and Dachshund Mix
Age: Approximately 3 Years
More about Sophie: Sophie is a sweet little girl who has endless amounts of love and kisses to give. She is a bit shy at first, but warms up very quickly to anyone who talks to her. She has a very kind temperament and can’t seem to get enough human attention. This adorable adoptable is perfect for a family that wants to run and play with their furry friend, but doesn’t want to have to deal with the puppy stage. Since she’s three, her new family won’t have to worry about that. Sophie could also stand to lose a few pounds, so a nightly walk or jog is probably in her best interest. She is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a one-year city license and has a pre-registered microchip. Sophie won’t be a BARC long, as her sweet attitude and loving personality will get her adopted by a lucky family in no time.

Tandy
Animal ID: A1060585
Breed: Tabby and Domestic Short Hair Mix
Age: Approximately 4 Years Old
More about Tandy: Tandy is an absolute sweetie who loves to be held and is quite curious about her environment. Her favorite pastime is bird watching and long naps after a belly rub. She’s a very nice kitty that deserves a wonderful new home. Tandy came into BARC as an owner surrender, but now she is ready to start a new life with a new family. Tandy is BARC PurrFurred pet, which means she has been at BARC for longer than 20 days. She is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a one-year city license and has a pre-registered microchip. Come to BARC and meet Tandy, along with many other kitties at BARC that deserve new families that will give them the love they deserve.

Update on last week’s Mayor’s Pets of the Week: Meryl, last week’s cat of the week has been adopted. Oscar (A1114096), last week’s dog of the week, is still available for adoption.

Please stop by BARC this week and give a deserving pet a new home. There are hundreds of pets available for adoption, so you are sure to find the perfect companion for your family. Visit BARC’s website to see the many pets available for adoption.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
