HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A four-year-old boy died Sunday after accidentally shooting himself. The accident happened in north Houston.

According to Houston Police Homicide detectives, patrol units responded to a 911 call of a shooting just before 9 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 13500 block of Northborough Drive.

Upon arrival, authorities found the father carrying the child, who had been shot.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and tried to revive the toddler; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy lives with his mother, but sometimes visits his father at his apartment on the weekends.

Additional reports indicate that the Glock .40-caliber handgun that the little boy shot himself with, was stolen during a 2011 burglary.

Investigators also reportedly found marijuana, crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the apartment.

The father of the young boy faces charges of endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute; each of the charges is a felony.
